Program Aims
1.) Provide pediatric trainees with a three-year longitudinal curriculum in global health
2) Train globally minded pediatricians prepared to understand and provide for the needs of all children including those from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Objectives
Patient Care

Develop an approach to patient care that is culturally aware and patient-centered.

Identify the unique needs of patients and families of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds including but not limited to immigrants, refugees, non-English speakers and international adoptees.
Medical Knowledge

Describe the epidemiology of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in infants, children and adolescents in our local community, nationally and internationally.

Understand and describe the pathophysiology of common diseases affecting children in communities globally with particular emphasis on the underserved.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills

Participate in global health advocacy efforts at the local, systems and policy level to ensure the optimal health and well-being of all children, both locally and globally.

Demonstrate empathy and sensitivity for the barriers faced by patients and families in seeking care.

Recognize the challenges of caring for high-risk populations and begin to design strategies to respond to these challenges.

Compare and contrast access to, and quality of health care for children around the world and examine how these different systems of care affects child and family health outcomes.
